For example, if a hand cream does not have the proper viscosity, it can either be too hard to pump out from the tube, or it would pump out too much.

Viscosity Measuring Tools

A u-tube viscometer measures the viscosity of the product by applying gravity as the driving force. Some other types of cosmetic compounds, such as elastic soaps have to be tested with rotational viscometers. The tool measures viscosity of the liquid as a measure of the torque required to move an object through the cosmetic compound.
For most types of cosmetic compounds, a rheometer used at the development stage, as it offer more data on how the compound’s elasticity and viscosity will react under a broad range of conditions, including pressure and heat.
